Privacy Policy
Last updated: 18 October 2026
This explains what personal data CaseAnchor collects, why, and the choices you have. CaseAnchor is operated by its founder from Canada and is the controller of your data. We aim to meet the requirements of the UK GDPR for users in the UK.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address, and the name, university, course, intended use and "how you heard about us" answers you give when you sign up. If you arrive through a friend's share link, we record which link.
- Your chats: the case descriptions and questions you type, the AI's answers, the cases found, and any summaries you request.
- Usage and billing status: how many prompts and summaries you've used, and whether you have an active subscription. We do not receive your card details.
- Technical data: basic server logs (such as IP address and time) kept by our hosting provider for security and troubleshooting.
Please keep chats anonymous
Describe cases in general terms. Please don't enter real names, confidential client information or anything sensitive.
Why we use it
- To provide the service you asked for: signing you in, running searches, saving your chats, enforcing limits and managing your subscription (contract).
- To understand who uses CaseAnchor and improve it, and to keep it secure and prevent abuse (legitimate interests).
- To contact you about your account or a support request.
We don't sell your data and we don't use advertising or analytics trackers.
Who we share it with
We use these providers to run the service:
- Cloudflare: website hosting and the database that stores accounts and chats.
- Anthropic: the AI that reads your descriptions and writes answers and summaries. Under its commercial API terms, Anthropic does not use this data to train its models by default.
- The National Archives (UK) and CourtListener (US): the search terms generated from your description are sent to them to find cases. We don't send your email or name.
- Resend: delivers your sign-in emails.
- Polar: our payment provider and merchant of record, which handles checkout, billing and tax.
Some of these providers process data outside the UK and your country, including in the United States and Canada.
Cookies and local storage
We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in, and your browser's local storage to remember small preferences such as the country tab. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
How long we keep it
Chats and account details are kept until you delete them or your account. Sign-in links expire after 15 minutes and are cleared soon after. If you delete your account, we remove your profile, chats, usage records and sign-in data. Payment records may be kept by Polar as required by law.
Your rights
You can delete any chat or your whole account yourself, any time, from the Account menu. You can also ask us to access, correct or export your data, or object to how we use it, by emailing [email protected]. If you're in the UK and unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Children
CaseAnchor is for people aged 16 and over.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above. Questions: [email protected].
